Charlene Ann Attakai

TOHATCHI, N.M. — Funeral service for Charlene Ann Attakai, 52, of Thoreau, New Mexico, and Pine Springs, Arizona, will be held Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Mission in Tohatchi, New Mexico, with Father Dale Jameson officiating.

Charlene was born Aug. 26, 1967, in Gallup, into the Bit’ahnii Nishli (Under His Cover Clan), born for Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan). She passed away Oct. 19, 2019, in Oak Springs, Arizona.

Charlene graduated from Thoreau High School and attended the University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch. She worked in sales and was a caregiver. She enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and loved to constantly learn/educate herself about various topics.

Charlene is survived by her sons, Storm Jones and Aragon Peshlakai-Attakai; father, Henry P. Attakai; sisters, Marlene P. Attakai-Wilson, Priscella Jabalera, Veronica Ration, Clara Garcia, Elvira James, and Veronica Henio; and brother, Francis Watchman.

Charlene is preceded in death by her mother, Floria M. Peshlakai-Attakai; brothers, William Watchman and Leo Watchman; sister, Florence Watchman-Henio; nieces, Rhiannon R. James and Laverne Watchman; maternal grandparents, Mike Peshlakai and Helen Hatch-Joe; and paternal grandparents, Charlie Attakai and Anna Chee.

A reception will take place at Saint Mary’s Mission, following service.

Riverside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gilbert G. Cadman

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Gilbert G. Cadman, 67, were held Nov. 5 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Fort Defiance. Interment followed at the Fort Defiance community cemetery.

Gilbert was born Dec. 24, 1951, in Gallup. He passed away Oct. 31, 2019, in Albuquerque.

Gilbert received his GED in the 11th grade and continued his education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He worked as a butcher in Red Mesa.

Over 30 years, Gilbert worked with the Union Pacific Railroad starting as a laborer and moving his way up to assistant foreman before retiring. After retirement, he did beadwork and was a silversmith.

Gilbert is survived by his son, Grayson Cadman; and sister, Pauline Jefferson.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Chia Shorty; father, Johnny Cadman; and brother, Robert Shorty.

Pallbearers were Grayson Cadman, Chris Shorty, Ray Jefferson, Herbert Jefferson Jr., Lexius Nez, Ed Willie, and Logan Damon.
