GANADO, Ariz. — Funeral services for Pauline Clarke, 89, of Fort Defiance, will be held today, March 2, at 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ganado, Arizona, with Richard Clarke officiating. Burial will follow in Klagetoh, Arizona.

Pauline was born May 7, 1933, in Klagetoh, into the Bit’ahnii (Under His Cover Clan), born for Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan). Her nálí is ‘Áshįįhí (Salt People). She passed away Feb. 26, 2023, in Fort Defiance.

Pauline attended Fort Wingate School and was a 1954 graduate of Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Oklahoma. She was employed and retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Klagetoh, Toyei, and Greasewood, Arizona.

Pauline enjoyed sewing, quilting, plastic canvas crafts, beadwork, puzzles, word-find puzzles, watching rodeos and old Western movies, and crocheting, but most of all, she loved being in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much.

Pauline is survived by her sons, Richard (Vergina) Clarke and Glenn Clarke; daughters, Yvonne Toledo, Lula (Darryl) Billy, Marci Clarke, Lottie Clarke (Wilson Lopez), and Juliana Clark; brothers, Tom Tsinnajinnie, Bob Tsinnajinnie, and Leonard Tsinnajinnie Jr.; sisters, Anita Tsinnajinnie, Mary T. Cohoe, Lenora Tsinnajinnie, and Ann Yazzie; and 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Pauline is preceded in death by her husband, James Clarke Sr.; parents, Lily Nez and Leonard Tsinnajinnie; stepmother, Iola Tsinajinnie; brothers, Leo Tsinajinnie, Chester Tsinajinnie, and Albert Yazzie Regis; sons, Steven James Clarke and James Clarke Jr.; granddaughter, Jessica Peterson; and grandsons, Kyle Ryan Clarke and Eric Billy.

Robert Tsinajinnie, Chester Tsinajinnie Jr., Michael Clarke, Nathan Clarke, Troy Haskie, Jacob Billy, and Samuel Billy will be pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Clarke, Cayden Clarke, DeWayne Clarke, Truex Clarke, Draiman Tsosie, Rhowan Tsosie, Jayson Garnanez, Jaysiah Garnanez, Christopher Billy, Leo Lloyd Tsinajinnie, Leonard Kanuho, and Leland Yazzie.

Following services, a reception will occur at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Summit Funeral Home oversaw arrangements.

MICHAELS, Ariz. — Funeral services for Sister Jeanette Marie Kinlicheeny, 83, of Greasewood, Arizona, will be held Tuesday, March 7, at 10 a.m., at the St. Michael Indian School Chapel in St. Michaels, Arizona, with Father Blaine officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Michael Church cemetery.

Sister Jeanette was born Feb. 12, 1940, in Ganado, Arizona, into the Tótsohnii (Big Water Clan), born for Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan). Her nálí is Kinłichíi’nii (Red House People); cheii is Kinyaa’áanii. She passed away Feb. 23, 2023, in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

Sister Jeanette attended school in St. Michaels, Poston Public in Parker, Arizona, St. Johns, and Laveen, Arizona. She then attended Loyola University in Los Angeles and the University of San Francisco, California.

Sister Jeanette worked at San Antonio De Pala in Pala, California, St. Michael School, St. Charles School in San Carlos, California, and St. Catherine School in Santa Fe.

Sister Jeanette enjoyed reading, music, traveling, outdoor adventures, homebound visits, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Sister Jeanette is survived by her sister, Patricia Kinlicheeny.

Sister Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, Antoinette and Richard Kinlicheeny; brothers, Bernard Kinlicheeny, Ambrose Kinlicheeny, George Kinlicheeny, and Benjamin Kinlicheeny; and sister, Angela Kinlicheeny.

Richard Paul, Nathaniel Paul, Leroy Nelson, and Dewayne Murphy will be pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frederick Paul, Christopher Kinlicheeny, Bernard Kinlicheeny Jr., and Julius Kinlicheeny.

A reception will take place at the St. Michael Indian School gym following services.

Caleb Roanhorse

GALLUP — Graveside service for Caleb Roanhorse, 72, of Navajo Station, Arizona, was held March 1 at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Caleb was born into the Tótsohnii (Big Water Clan), born for Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan). He passed away Feb. 25, 2023.

Caleb received a bachelor’s in education from the University of Arizona, and a master’s in education from Northern Arizona University.

Sarah Farley

LITTLEWATER, N.M. — Sarah Farley, of Littlewater, New Mexico, was born Aug. 26, 1957, to the late Paul and Helen Manygoats. Her clans are Hooghan Łání (Many Hogans Clan), born for Tsenabahiłnii (Sleep Rock People Clan). Her nalí is Naashaashí (Bear Clan); cheii is Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People). She passed away Feb. 23, 2023.

Sarah was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Sarah started school at Newcomb Elementary from kindergarten through 8th grade and graduated from Shiprock High School in 1976. She then attended San Juan College for two years.

Sarah worked with Central Consolidated School District at Nataani Nez Elementary and Nizhoni Elementary School. She worked 34 years for the schools, retiring in 2014.

Sarah had many hobbies and was very creative. She wove many rugs, including orders for rug dresses, purses, coin purses, and pictorial rugs.

Sarah is survived by her husband, Gilbert Farley; children, Pamela Brown (Raleigh), Delana Joy Farley (Arlando), and Roland Farley (Shauntai); brothers, George Manygoats (Sarah) and Pete Manygoats; sisters, Elsie Yazzie (Richard), Nora Manygoats (Leonard) and Rita Manygoats; and three grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Manygoats; and brothers, Harrison and Lester Manygoats.
